Standard lens

Prime lens with a focal length roughly the same as the diagonal of the film or sensor. This gives a view which looks 'normal' without the image distortion of wide-angle and telephoto lenses.

For 35mm film or a full-frame digital SLR the film/sensor is 36x24mm and the diagonal is 43mm. The usual approximation is a 50mm focal length lens.

On most cameras made since the 1990s the most common lens used is a zoom lens which has the 'standard' focal length within its range.
