Fluorite

Material used for making lens elements which reduce chromatic aberration.

Fluorite is a crystallised form of calcium fluoride. Techniques were developed in the 1960s for producing large fluorite crystals and using them to make lens elements. They are particularly useful in telephoto lenses where chromatic aberration can be a particular problem.
