Diopter, dioptre

A unit of measurement of the magnifying power of a lens.
Auxiliary close-up lenses, which are fitted to the front of normal camera lenses to increase magnification, are sometimes called dioptres.
The adjustment built into some camera viewfinders to compensate for a photographer's long or short-sightedness (above) is often called a dioptre adjustment or just dioptre.
