Backside illuminated sensor
A type of digital camera sensor which potentially has better low light performance.
Conventional digital camera sensors have a layer of electric circuitry in front of the light-sensing photodiodes. A backside illuminated or back illuminated sensor switches the layers so the circuitry is at the back, allowing more light to reach the sensor photodiodes.
